なくてもいい means "don't have to" or "no need to": 明日は来なくてもいいです, "you don't have to come tomorrow". It's てもいい built on the ない form: 来ない → 来なくて + もいい, "even if you don't come, it's fine".
It's the natural answer to a なければなりません question: 明日も来なければなりませんか。——いいえ、来なくてもいいですよ.
Speech often drops the も: 来なくていいよ.
Don't mix it up with ないでください. 書かないでください is "please don't write"; 書かなくてもいいです is "you don't need to write" (but you can).
As a question, なくてもいいですか asks whether you can skip something: 行かなくてもいいですか, "is it okay if I don't go?"
