〜ない

〜ない is the plain negative: 食べない, "(I) don't eat"; 行かない, "(I'm) not going". It's ません without the politeness.

How to build it:

• ichidan verbs drop る: 食べる → 食べない, 見る → 見ない
• godan verbs move the last kana to the a-row: 飲む → 飲まない, 帰る → 帰らない. Verbs ending in う use わ: 会う → 会わない
• する → しない, 来る → 来ない (こない)
• ある → ない, on its own

The result behaves like an い-adjective, so it makes its past like one: 食べない → 食べなかった, the next-but-one point.
