while (doing)

Verb ます-stem + ながら

ながら joins two actions done at the same time by the same person: 音楽を聞きながら勉強します, "I study while listening to music".

It goes on the ます-stem: 聞きます → 聞きながら, 見ます → 見ながら, 食べます → 食べながら.

The main action comes last; the ながら one is in the background. テレビを見ながらご飯を食べる is mostly about eating, with the TV on.

Both actions have to be yours. For "while someone else was doing something", Japanese uses a different pattern (間に, later). And the て-form isn't the same: 聞いて勉強する would mean listening first, then studying.
