て-form + しまう has two sides.

It can mean doing something completely: 宿題をもうやってしまいました, "I've already got my homework done".

More often, it adds regret or "oops": 電車に傘を忘れてしまった, "I left my umbrella on the train (argh)". The plain 忘れた states a fact; 忘れてしまった says how you feel about it.

In speech it shrinks: てしまう → ちゃう, でしまう → じゃう. 食べちゃった, "I ate it all (oops)"; 飲んじゃった, "I went and drank it". You'll hear these constantly.

It conjugates like any godan verb: しまった, しまいました, and しまった! on its own is "oh no!"
