〜てほしい

want (someone) to do

Person に + Verb て-form + ほしい

て-form + ほしい says you want someone else to do something: 母にもっと休んでほしい, "I want my mother to rest more". The person takes に.

Compare たい, which is only for what you yourself want to do: 休みたい is "I want to rest".

For "I don't want you to", use the ない form: 誰にも言わないでほしい, "I don't want you to tell anyone".

Said to someone's face it can sound demanding, so it's often softened: 早く来てほしいんだけど…, "I'd like you to come early, if that's okay…". With a superior, a request (ていただけませんか) is safer.
