〜をもってすれば・〜をもってしても

These two build on をもって, "by means of":

  • をもってすれば: "with X, it would be possible". 彼の実力をもってすれば、優勝も夢ではない, "with his ability, winning isn't just a dream".
  • をもってしても: "even with X, it's impossible". 最新の技術をもってしても、この病気は治せない, "even the latest technology can't cure this disease".

The noun is always something powerful: ability, skill, technology, a top expert, modern science. The second half is positive for すれば and negative for しても.

That makes them a natural pair for puzzles: check whether the result is possible or impossible, then pick the matching form.
