に則って (にのっとって) means "in accordance with, following" an established standard: 大会は国際ルールに則って行われる, "the competition is held under international rules".

The noun is a formal norm: ルール, 法, 伝統, しきたり ("custom"), 契約, 手続き. It's common for ceremonies, sports, law and business. Before a noun, it becomes に則った: 古来のしきたりに則った結婚式, "a wedding held according to ancient custom".

It's close to に従って and に基づいて. Compared with に即して, it's about following a set rule, while に即して is about fitting reality.

Careful with the reading: のっとって, not のって. に乗って means "riding on".
