〜にかかわる

にかかわる means something seriously affects something important: それは命にかかわる問題だ, "that's a matter of life and death".

The noun is usually something valuable that could be damaged: 命, 信用 ("trust, credit"), 将来, 名誉 ("honour"), 健康, 安全. The phrase often comes before 問題 or こと, and it signals high stakes.

It can also mean simply "related to, involved in": 教育にかかわる仕事, "a job in education". It's written in kana or 関わる.

Don't confuse it with にかかわらず (N2), "regardless of", which looks almost the same but means the opposite: "it doesn't matter". Also compare に関して (N3), a neutral "about, concerning".
