まみれ means covered all over in something, usually something liquid, sticky or powdery: 泥まみれ, "covered in mud"; 汗まみれ, "drenched in sweat"; 血まみれ, "covered in blood"; ほこりまみれ, "covered in dust".

It works like a noun: 泥まみれになる, 汗まみれで働く, 油まみれの手.

Compare だらけ (N3), which is "full of" things scattered around: 間違いだらけ, ゴミだらけ. まみれ is a coating that sticks to the surface. You can't say 間違いまみれ, and 汗だらけ sounds odd.

Both are negative in tone: things you'd want to wash off. Figuratively, you'll also see 借金まみれ ("drowning in debt") and 嘘まみれ ("riddled with lies").
