〜かいがある・〜がいがある

かいがある means an effort was worth it, because it brought results: 頑張ったかいがあって、合格できた, "my hard work paid off, and I passed". かい (甲斐) means "worth, effect".

It follows a た-form describing the effort. The negative, かいもなく, means "all for nothing": 練習したかいもなく、負けてしまった, "despite all our practice, we lost".

After a ます-stem, it becomes がい: やりがいがある, "rewarding (to do)"; 生きがい, "a reason to live"; 教えがいがある, "rewarding to teach".

It's a warm expression, often used to celebrate success or encourage someone to keep going.
