〜なくして(は)

without (X, Y is impossible)

なくして means "without X", with the implication that Y can't happen without it: 努力なくして、成功はありえない, "without effort, success is impossible".

The noun is something essential (effort, cooperation, trust, health), and the second half is negative: ありえない, できない, 語れない, ない. With は, it's even more emphatic.

It's a formal, written version of なしには and なければ. It's popular in speeches and slogans: 皆さんの協力なくしては、この計画は実現できなかった, "without your cooperation, this project would never have happened".

Compare なしに / なしで, which is a plain "without (doing)": 断りなしに, "without asking".
