〜ぐるみ

ぐるみ means everyone or everything in a group is involved together: 家族ぐるみで付き合っている, "our whole families are friends".

It follows a group: 家族, 町, 会社, 地域 ("community"), 組織. It's used for joint activities (町ぐるみで祭りを準備する) and, in the news, for organised wrongdoing (会社ぐるみの不正, "company-wide fraud").

The fixed phrase 身ぐるみはがされる means "be stripped of everything you own".

It comes from くるむ, "to wrap up". Compare ごと, "including, (swallowing) whole": 皮ごと食べる, "eat it skin and all". ぐるみ is about groups of people. It often comes before で or の: 家族ぐるみで, 会社ぐるみの.
