Verb ます-stem + 方 (かた) makes a noun, "the way of doing": 読み方, "how to read, reading"; 使い方, "how to use"; 作り方, "how to make, a recipe".
It's a noun, so it takes の for its object instead of を: 漢字の読み方, "how to read the kanji"; 箸の使い方, "how to use chopsticks".
する becomes 仕方 (しかた), "the way to do": 勉強の仕方. You'll also hear やり方 with the same meaning, from やる.
It's the natural way to ask for instructions: 行き方を教えてください, "please tell me how to get there".
