〜といったらない

incredibly, beyond words

といったらない means something is so extreme that words can't describe it: 彼の部屋の汚さといったらない, "you wouldn't believe how messy his room is".

It usually follows a noun made from an adjective with さ, like 汚さ, 暑さ, 悔しさ or うまさ, or an emotion noun like 感動. In the past, it becomes といったらなかった.

It's literally "if you try to say it, there's no way", and it works for good and bad. といったらありゃしない is a more emotional, colloquial version, usually negative, and ったらない is the casual form.

Compare といっても (N3), "although I say", which is a concession.

  • 彼かれの部屋へやの汚きたなさといったらない。

    She sings incredibly well.
