〜がましい

がましい means an attitude or remark has an unpleasant flavour of something: 恩着せがましい言い方, "a patronising way of speaking, as if doing you a favour".

It combines with only a handful of words, so learn them as vocabulary:

  • 恩着せがましい: making a show of doing a favour.
  • 言い訳がましい: sounding like excuses.
  • 押し付けがましい: pushy.
  • 未練がましい: unable to let go.
  • 差し出がましい: presumptuous, forward. 差し出がましいようですが is a polite way to offer an unasked-for opinion.

It's always critical, or humble when used about yourself.

  • 恩着おんきせがましい言いい方かたをするな。

    Don't talk as if you're doing me a favour.

  • 言いい訳わけがましいことは言いいたくない。

    I don't want to say anything that sounds like an excuse.

  • 押おし付つけがましいアドバイスはやめてほしい。

    I wish you'd stop giving pushy advice.

  • 差さし出でがましいようですが、一言ひとことよろしいでしょうか。

    I hope I'm not being presumptuous, but may I say something?

  • 未練みれんがましいことを言いうようだけど、もう一度会いちどあいたい。

    I know it sounds like I can't let go, but I want to see you again.
